Why Your Website Isn’t Getting Enquiries (It’s Probably Not a Traffic Problem)

Increasing enquiries on your website

You’ve built a website and it’s gone live. So where are the enquiries? Why isn’t your phone ringing?

Before you ask ‘how do I get more visitors?’, check how many visitors you’re actually getting. You can do this on the backend of most websites (website analytics), or on Google Console. You might be surprised.

Then ask:

"When the right person arrives, do they immediately know I’m the right choice over my competitors?"

That’s where good website copy and layout makes the difference.

Here are a few things to review on your website to turn traffic into enquiries:

  1. Don’t scroll. What do you see?
This is more than a consideration of the copywriting, this also includes analysis of what people physically see when they land on your homepage - before they scroll down. They should see a header with your business’s name, logo and subheading/tagline/summary before anything else. It must be immediately obvious who you are and what you do.

  2. Talk about how you solve your customer’s problems.
More important than ‘we provide high-quality landscaping services with over 15 years of experience’, is ‘we help busy homeowners transform overgrown outdoor spaces into gardens they enjoy using’. It turns your service into a solution, and mirrors what your customers are searching on Google (that’s SEO gold!). (SEO = Search Engine Optimisation… or wording your copy in a way that Google likes very much.)

  3. Trust.
Ensure your website includes outcomes too. Examples, reviews, case studies, analytics, improvements… What are the tangible ways you have helped people in the past? This increases trust.

  4. Fast to load, and easy to read.
You can write the prettiest copy in the land, but if your website is slow, sluggish, crashing and glitching, then no one will ever read it. Having a website that is clean, clear and easy to use is more essential than anything else.

  5. Answering their questions.
Include all the information a visitor would need, quickly and succinctly. Don’t use 100 words when 10 will do; website traffic has no patience and they quickly ‘bounce’ off your site.
