I have been running social media accounts for businesses for more than 15 years, starting with my entertainment website’s account. I ran the NZ Herald Video accounts in 2015, then Studentcard’s accounts for several years from 2018.

Since then, I’ve been helping predominately small businesses and those in the trades to improve their social media account growth and regularity.

Why is it important to be on Social Media?

It depends on your company’s customer base and demographic. However, generally-speaking, having active social media pages shows that you’re a honest company who is confident about what they’re providing - and that they are still in business! It’s also a great way to communicate with customers, and showcase your work.

Facebook

Having an active Facebook page offers potential customers a lot of reassurance that you’re not going to run off with their money. That’s because this social media platform is a two-way street (unlike a standard website) - previous customers can leave feedback on company pages either via reviews or comments. So it’s pretty easy for a potential buyer to find out if you’re a genuine company or not, just by finding out what previous customers say.

Instagram

Instagram accounts work a little differently. While it doesn’t make sense for every company to have an Insta account, it’s usually a great way to get your brand out there. The only catch is that Instagram is a more visual platform, so beautiful imagery or entertaining video content is a must. Investment into gathering a stockpile of awesome pictures and video of you/your product/brand is necessary if you want to gain any traction at all here.
