Why is it important to be on Social Media?

It depends on your company’s customer base and demographic. However, generally-speaking, having active social media pages shows that you’re a honest company who is confident about what they’re providing - and that they are still in business! It’s also a great way to communicate with customers, and showcase your work.

Having an active Facebook page offers potential customers a lot of reassurance that you’re not going to run off with their money. That’s because this social media platform is a two-way street (unlike a standard website) - previous customers can leave feedback on company pages either via reviews or comments. So it’s pretty easy for a potential buyer to find out if you’re a genuine company or not, just by finding out what previous customers say.

Instagram accounts work a little differently. While it doesn’t make sense for every company to have an Insta account, it’s usually a great way to get your brand out there. The only catch is that Instagram is a more visual platform, so beautiful imagery or entertaining video content is a must. Investment into gathering a stockpile of awesome pictures and video of you/your product/brand is necessary if you want to gain any traction at all here.

FAQs

  • Having a presence on Facebook in particular has become a minimal expectation for most brands. Instagram and TikTok, however, could depend on the your brand as they are both video-heavy platforms that lends itself to more creative businesses who are targeting a younger audience.

  • While it does require time and effort to maintain an image online, it is still a valuable way to keep your brand in front of potential customers. It's also a great way to collect information on who your target audience is.

  • This depends on your brand, your platform and your audience. However, a good rule of thumb is to avoid posting blatant advertisements for your product because social media users look for entertaining, moving or interesting content on their feed and won't engage with an advert.

  • Put simply, an algorithm is a set of rules - a cause and effect - that social media platforms perform by. It can dictate when and who your post is shown to, and learns what kind of person engages with it to better understand whose feed to show your content on.

In other words, if your followers are scrolling past your post without interacting with it, then the algorithm will avoid showing it to a wider audience. Vice versa, if your content is receiving a lot of engagement, then the algorithm will present your content to a wider audience of a similar demographic.
